Acting is like any skill or profession – you need training to be a good actor.
If you’re not able to study acting in person – because of where you live, your circumstances, or situations like the current pandemic, there are still ways you can train online and keep your acting skills sharp.
You need to understand the language and protocols on set, and how to listen to a director. You need to know how to break down a script, and develop a character. You need to understand different acting techniques, such as the Meisner technique, emotional memory, the Stanislavski method. These are skills you can learn online.
You should find a good online school that will give you individual feedback on your work, that offers a variety of training, live video workshops, challenges and resources and a supportive community. Find a school where the teachers are actual working actors, directors, and casting agents. So if you’re stuck at home, not based in London or just want to learn online, The Actors Gym (https://actorsgym.co.uk) is for you.

The Actors Gym is an online acting community and training school developed by the team from the hugely successful real-world acting school, The Reel Scene.
Many acting students aren’t based in London, and can’t come to physical classes (for example because of the Coronavirus outbreak). As a result, we developed The Actors Gym as a place where actors can train online. It offers acting advice from real, working actors including celebrities like Asa Butterfield (Sex Education on Netflix) and William Moseley (The Chronicles of Narnia). We post self-tape challenges every month and give you personal feedback on your submissions. We have regular Zoom workshops with our acting coaches, covering everything from movement and motion capture to Meisner and audition technique. We offer a growing range of courses, workshops, special interest groups, libraries of scripts and monologues and much more.
We welcome English-speaking actors from anywhere in the world, at any point of their acting career, and of any age. Contact us at [email protected] to find out more!
